Find childcare help in Newfoundland and Labrador

Newfoundland and Labrador's Early Learning and Child Care Directory is published by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, which oversees the Child Care Act and its regulations. On 13 August 2026 the directory's unfiltered centre search returned 266 results — its paginator read "Records 1 - 50 of 266". That is what one search view returned on one day. It is not a total the province publishes, we have not checked that every result is a licensed centre, and regulated family child care homes are searched separately, so we cannot say whether any are inside or outside that 266.

What a participating Newfoundland and Labrador service charges

The Operating Grant Program is Newfoundland and Labrador's $10-a-day programme. Effective 1 January 2023, a regulated child care service that takes the grant must lower its rate to $10 per day for infants, toddlers, preschoolers and full-day school-age children, and is not permitted to surcharge parents above that rate. Participation is the operator's choice, so the province marks each centre's OGP status one centre at a time in the directory. MapleCub publishes no province-wide participation share, because we have not counted it.

The Child Care Subsidy Program is a separate, income-tested programme

Newfoundland and Labrador also runs a Child Care Subsidy Program, which is not the Operating Grant Program and is not the $10-a-day rate. The province describes it as "an income tested program designed to assist families with the cost of child care fees at regulated child care services" that works "by eliminating or minimizing cost within available resources". A child must be attending a regulated child care service for an eligible family to receive it. MapleCub publishes no income threshold, no fee scale and no eligibility test for it, because the province publishes those inside a policy manual we have not audited.

The age ranges Newfoundland and Labrador licenses by

These are the province's own definitions, from section 2 of the Child Care Regulations (NLR 39/17) under the Child Care Act. They are not the Ontario bands and they deliberately overlap, so one child can sit inside two ranges at once — which is why a Newfoundland and Labrador centre's licensed range cannot be inferred from a child's age alone.

Age rangeHow the province defines it
Infant age rangefrom birth up to 2 years old
Toddler age rangefrom one year and 6 months old up to 3 years old
Pre-school age rangenot attending school, and from 2 years and 9 months old up to 5 years and 9 months old
Pre-kindergarten age rangeattending a pre-kindergarten program, and from 3 years and 8 months old up to 5 years and 9 months old
School age rangeattending school, and from 4 years and 8 months old up to 13 years old

Where Newfoundland and Labrador publishes enforcement

The province publishes a province-wide list of every Violation Order issued to a child care centre in the last 90 days, with the legislative reference, the compliance deadline and the date compliance was met. Older orders stay on the individual centre's detail page for three years before being removed. Orders and Notices of Corrective Action issued to family child care providers are not published online at all — the province directs families to the regional Education office or to the family child care agency.

What we don't have for Newfoundland and Labrador yet

Newfoundland and Labrador says its own directory is not official

The province prints this on the directory itself: "Disclaimer: The Early Learning and Child Care Directory information available through this website should not be considered official versions. It is provided for information purposes only." MapleCub's Newfoundland and Labrador listings derive from that directory, so the same caveat applies here. Confirm a licence, an age range or a fee with the centre or with the regional Education office before you act on it.

No MapleCub supply figures for Newfoundland and Labrador yet

Newfoundland and Labrador is not in the published edition of the MapleCub Canadian Childcare Dataset, so this page shows no programme count, no centre-versus-home split, no community count and no per-1,000 rate for the province. The only number on this page comes from the province's own directory, and it is an observation rather than a total: its unfiltered centre search returned 266 results on 13 August 2026.

No ratings, reviews or website coverage for Newfoundland and Labrador yet

Newfoundland and Labrador has not been through MapleCub's Google matching. We publish no rating, review or website figure for the province rather than a zero — a zero would describe our matching queue, not Newfoundland and Labrador.

No Newfoundland and Labrador subsidy calculator or cost guide

MapleCub's subsidy engine models seven provinces and Newfoundland and Labrador is not one of them. The province runs two separate programmes — the Operating Grant Program's flat $10-a-day rate and the income-tested Child Care Subsidy Program — and modelling either one alone would produce a number a family could not rely on. Rather than show an estimate we cannot stand behind, we send you to the province's own pages. That is why Newfoundland and Labrador has no calculator, cost guide or subsidy page here.

No family child care enforcement record is public

The province's 90-day violations list covers child care centres only. Violation Orders and Notices of Corrective Action issued to regulated family child care providers are obtainable only by contacting the regional Education office or Family and Child Care Connections, so no enforcement history is available here for a Newfoundland and Labrador family home.
