Day Care Act Licensing
Nine of Lower Sackville's ten licensed listings are centres and one is a home-based service, which is roughly the Nova Scotia pattern: family child care makes up only about five percent of the province's licensed supply, a share matched for scarcity only by Ontario's four percent. One centre here has a published rating. First Friends Day Care Society on Judy Avenue sits at 4.3 across twelve reviews. No other Lower Sackville listing has been reviewed at all.

What to know about childcare in Lower Sackville
What Nova Scotia does supply is age data, and it supplies it for nine of the ten. Eight are licensed for toddlers and nine for preschool ages, six run through school age, and three take infants under a year, so the shape of the local shortage is clear enough to plan around even without ratings.
The names worth knowing are short in number. First Lake Early Learning Centre Society operates on First Lake Drive, Fun to Learn Day Care Centre on Balsam Circle, and Tiny Treasures Nursery School on Sackville Drive. Sackville Family Day Care on Memory Lane is the one home-based option in the record.
Lower Sackville is part of Halifax Regional Municipality rather than a separate town, and that changes the search considerably: Bedford, Middle Sackville and Halifax proper are all within a normal commute, and between them they carry far more licensed capacity than these ten listings suggest. Nine numbers, four websites.

Tips for choosing childcare in Lower Sackville
Verify Licensing
Confirm the centre holds a current provincial licence. A licence means the province checked baseline health, safety and staffing standards — it is a floor, not a ranking.
Read Parent Reviews
Reviews cover what an inspection report never will: what drop-off feels like, whether messages get answered, how long staff stay.
Ask About Curriculum
Ask what a Tuesday actually looks like. "Montessori" and "play-based" mean different things at different centres, so the daily schedule tells you more than the label does.
Consider Schedule Fit
Check the posted open and close times against your commute, not just your workday. Then ask what happens when you're late.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many daycares are in Lower Sackville?
Ten licensed listings: nine centres and one home-based service.
Which is rated highest?
Only one listing carries a published rating at all. First Friends Day Care Society on Judy Avenue is at 4.3 across twelve reviews, which makes a ranking impossible here.
Do any take infants?
Three of the ten are licensed for children under a year. Eight cover toddlers, nine cover preschool ages and six extend through school age.
Should I search outside Lower Sackville?
Probably. Lower Sackville is part of Halifax Regional Municipality, and Bedford, Middle Sackville and Halifax are all within a routine commute with considerably more licensed capacity.
How many daycares in Lower Sackville publish their opening hours?
2 of the 10 licensed programmes MapleCub has on file in Lower Sackville publish their hours. The rest have not listed opening and closing times, so call to confirm.
How many daycares in Lower Sackville have Google ratings?
1 carry a public Google rating with five or more reviews. Centres with fewer reviews than that are listed too, without a rating, because a rating built on two reviews is not evidence.
Ask about spots near you
We email the centre and ask whether they have room for your child's age group. If they answer, we send you what they said. We don't hold live vacancy data, and centres aren't obliged to reply.
