Licensed centres
Three organizations run every licensed daycare on our Petrolia list. Generations Day Care holds three of the five entries: one at Lambton Centennial Public School, one at St. Philip's, and one in its own building on Petrolia Line. Kiddies Korner Co-operative on Princess Street is the town's parent co-op. The fifth entry isn't a building at all. Lambton Rural Child Care places children with contracted home providers across the surrounding townships, so a spot there might sit a few concessions out rather than in town. Count operators, not listings. If Generations is full, Petrolia parents have two alternatives, not four.
Generations Day Care Incorporated is the anchor here. Its Petrolia Line address is the registered head site, and the two school-based rooms at Lambton Centennial and St. Philip's sit under the same licence holder, which usually means shared policies, a shared approach to waitlists, and educators who move between locations when someone calls in sick. Ask whether the waitlist is pooled. Some multi-site operators keep one list across all their rooms; others keep a separate list per site, and the answer changes how many applications you actually need to file.
None of the five Petrolia listings carry enough Google reviews for us to publish an average. Not a single one. Across Ontario we hold usable ratings on roughly 2,058 providers, so a town this size showing nothing isn't a signal about quality; it's what happens when small rural centres fill by word of mouth and nobody thinks to review a daycare they got into three years ago. Age licensing is the other gap in the record. We show no age bands for any Petrolia provider, which is also true of about 82 percent of our Ontario listings, so phone each centre and ask directly whether they take infants.
Ontario's CWELCC agreement caps parent fees at licensed centres that enrolled in it, Lambton County administers income-tested fee subsidy separately on top of that, and enrolment in the first of those is decided operator by operator rather than town by town, which is why two centres four minutes apart can quote you very different numbers for the same room. Ask before you budget. The capped rate is not automatic. For infant care in particular, Sarnia sits about twenty-five minutes west and carries considerably more choice, and plenty of Petrolia families already commute that direction for work.
Verify Licensing
Confirm the centre holds a current provincial licence. A licence means the province checked baseline health, safety and staffing standards — it is a floor, not a ranking.
Read Parent Reviews
Reviews cover what an inspection report never will: what drop-off feels like, whether messages get answered, how long staff stay.
Ask About Curriculum
Ask what a Tuesday actually looks like. "Montessori" and "play-based" mean different things at different centres, so the daily schedule tells you more than the label does.
Consider Schedule Fit
Check the posted open and close times against your commute, not just your workday. Then ask what happens when you're late.
