Licensed centres
Treat Qualicum Beach and Parksville as one market. The town itself lists 14 licensed providers, nine centres and five licensed family dayhomes, not one of which carries enough Google reviews to show a rating. Fourteen is a reasonable base for 9,000 people. But nobody here searches it alone, and the families who find spaces fastest are the ones who called both towns on the same afternoon.

What to know about childcare in Qualicum Beach
Parksville is five minutes down the highway with 16 more providers, making 30 across the pair, and very few families search one without the other given that the drive between them takes less time than crossing most cities at rush hour. Build the shortlist for both. It roughly doubles what you have.
All 14 Qualicum Beach listings are flagged for British Columbia's Child Care Fee Reduction Initiative, which lowers the posted fee at source, while the income-tested Affordable Child Care Benefit stacks on top of that and is applied for separately through the province rather than through whichever provider you eventually choose. Island Health licenses the region. Age licensing is recorded for only two of the 14, so this page cannot tell you who takes infants. Phone them. Courtenay has 43 providers forty minutes north.

Tips for choosing childcare in Qualicum Beach
Verify Licensing
Confirm the centre holds a current provincial licence. A licence means the province checked baseline health, safety and staffing standards. It is a floor, not a ranking.
Read Parent Reviews
Reviews cover what an inspection report never will: what drop-off feels like, whether messages get answered, how long staff stay.
Ask About Curriculum
Ask what a Tuesday actually looks like. "Montessori" and "play-based" mean different things at different centres, so the daily schedule tells you more than the label does.
Consider Schedule Fit
Check the posted open and close times against your commute, not just your workday. Then ask what happens when you're late.
