Rated 4.5+
Half of the licensed child care in Timmins runs in French: 7 of the 14 providers MapleCub tracks are flagged as French-language, a share few Ontario cities outside the East can match and a direct reflection of the city's francophone community. The market splits 13 centres to 1 licensed home daycare, and ratings hold up well: a 4.68 average against Ontario's 4.46, with Stork's Child Care and Little Saplings Childcare Centre both at 5.0 and Friends Forever Childcare at 4.5 across 8 reviews. Review counts are modest (the two 5.0s rest on 3 reviews each), so treat the scores as early signals. All 14 providers in our data are flagged as enrolled in CWELCC fee reductions.

What to know about childcare in Timmins
For francophone families, Timmins is one of the better-served markets in northern Ontario: seven French-language providers means genuine choice rather than a single default. Confirm with each whether programming is fully francophone or bilingual, and whether priority goes to French-speaking households (both vary in practice and our language flag does not capture the distinction).
The review base needs honest framing. Friends Forever's 4.5 across 8 reviews is the steadiest signal in town; Stork's and Little Saplings each hold a 5.0 on just 3 reviews, which is a good start and nothing more. In a northern market where most providers have thin public records, tours, references and a look at staff turnover will tell you more than the star column. The single licensed home daycare is the only home-based option in our dataset, so small-group seekers have a one-call list.
None of the 14 listings carries age-group data in our sources (the standard Ontario coverage gap), so infant availability has to be asked about directly, and in a 14-provider city serving Timmins plus Porcupine and the surrounding townships, under-18-month spots will be the pinch point. Every provider in our data is CWELCC-flagged; ask for the current reduced rate by age band when you call.

Tips for choosing childcare in Timmins
Verify Licensing
Confirm the centre holds a current provincial licence. A licence means the province checked baseline health, safety and staffing standards — it is a floor, not a ranking.
Read Parent Reviews
Reviews cover what an inspection report never will: what drop-off feels like, whether messages get answered, how long staff stay.
Ask About Curriculum
Ask what a Tuesday actually looks like. "Montessori" and "play-based" mean different things at different centres, so the daily schedule tells you more than the label does.
Consider Schedule Fit
Check the posted open and close times against your commute, not just your workday. Then ask what happens when you're late.
