22 licensed daycares in Lachine, QC

Daycare & Childcare in Lachine

Lachine, the canal-side borough in Montréal's west end, has 22 garderies in MapleCub's directory, every one of them centre-based, with no home dayhomes listed. Unusually for our Canadian coverage, age data here is complete, so we can say precisely how the market breaks down: all 22 serve toddlers and preschoolers, 18 of the 22 accept poupons (under 18 months), and none offer school-age care. In Québec, before-and-after-school care runs through the schools themselves. Fourteen of the 22 offer reduced-contribution (subsidized) places, a lower share than Québec's 73.9% average, so Lachine parents are more likely than most to weigh a non-subsidized garderie against the provincial tax credit. Ratings sit above the provincial norm: 4.56 stars across the 19 programs with three or more Google reviews, versus 4.52 for Québec, with 13 rated 4.5 or higher. Garderie Éducative les Amis de Cathy 1 leads at 5.0 across 7 reviews, though top spots here rest on small review counts, so visit before you decide.

What to know about childcare in Lachine

Lachine's 22 garderies are all centre-based facilities regulated by Québec's Ministère de la Famille. Our directory lists no recognized home-based providers in the borough, so the home-care route (milieu familial) means looking to coordinating offices covering the wider West Island. What sets Lachine apart in our data is completeness: this is one of the few markets where every program's licensed age range is on file. The practical picture is good for young families. All 22 programs serve children from toddler through preschool, and 18 accept poupons, so infant care is structurally available here in a way it isn't in many markets, though the poupon rooms are still the smallest and fill first.

Note what's absent: no school-age care, by design. Québec handles before-and-after-school care through the school system's services de garde, so a Lachine garderie carries your child to kindergarten and then hands off.

The subsidy split is the borough's defining trade-off. Fourteen of 22 garderies offer reduced-contribution places at the province's fixed daily rate; eight are non-subsidized, where you pay market rates and claim Québec's refundable tax credit for childcare expenses, which scales with income. Lachine's 64% subsidized share sits well under the provincial average of 74%, so more families here do the tax-credit math than elsewhere in Québec. Run both scenarios before ruling out a non-subsidized spot. For some incomes the net difference is smaller than the sticker gap suggests, and non-subsidized garderies often have shorter waits.

Ratings modestly favour Lachine: 4.56 across 19 rated programs versus 4.52 provincially, with 13 programs at 4.5 stars or better. The top of the table rests on thin review bases: Garderie Éducative les Amis de Cathy 1 (5.0, 7 reviews), Jardin des Hirondelles (5.0, 4) and Garderie les Petits Bergers de Lachine (5.0, 4). Treat those as invitations to visit rather than rankings. For subsidized places, get your child on the Portail d'inscription aux services de garde, Québec's centralized waitlist, as early as possible; it's the only door into most reduced-contribution spots.
