Licensed centres
Sussex has 12 licensed early learning listings, ten centres and two home-based providers, and not one of them carries a single Google review in our data, which is unremarkable for New Brunswick, where the registry supplies solid licence records but almost no consumer feedback attaches to small-town providers. Zero reviews. The ranking shortcut most parents reach for is simply unavailable here. One operator dominates. By a lot. Five of the twelve listings carry the SCS banner of Sussex Christian School, covering Little Lights at two entries, the Trinity site, Mini Lights and an after-school program, which thins the list considerably before you have ruled anything out.
Read the list carefully, because several entries are out-of-school care rather than daycare. Shine After School Care, SCS Shine, CLASS and Class 424 are aimed at school-age children, and if you need care for a two-year-old none of them is an option no matter how the listing reads, which is a real caution given that program type is missing from most rows in the national file we work from. Four of the twelve. That leaves seven early learning listings. SCS runs three of the seven, and one Little Lights row is an exact duplicate. Call it five real choices.
Sussex Early Learning Centre and SCS Little Lights are the listings whose names point most clearly at full-day early learning rather than out-of-school care, and the two home-based providers, Kenzi's Home Daycare and Raisin' Bay-Bees, both record infant, preschool and school-age bands, which makes them worth a call even if a centre is your first preference. Not one of the twelve Sussex listings records a toddler band at all. Home care fills differently. A single opening can appear on a month's notice.
New Brunswick sets parent fees through the Parent Fee Grid and the designated operator system, so a centre's designation status changes what you pay far more than anything printed on its website does, and our data does not yet carry designation status for New Brunswick providers. Ask on the first call. It is a two-minute question with a several-hundred-dollar answer.
Sussex Corner adds two more listings just outside town. Beyond that the nearest real depth is Saint John at 83 listings and Moncton at 131, both roughly an hour away, which is not a daily childcare commute for most families but is worth considering if one parent already drives that road.

Verify Licensing
Confirm the centre holds a current provincial licence. A licence means the province checked baseline health, safety and staffing standards — it is a floor, not a ranking.
Read Parent Reviews
Reviews cover what an inspection report never will: what drop-off feels like, whether messages get answered, how long staff stay.
Ask About Curriculum
Ask what a Tuesday actually looks like. "Montessori" and "play-based" mean different things at different centres, so the daily schedule tells you more than the label does.
Consider Schedule Fit
Check the posted open and close times against your commute, not just your workday. Then ask what happens when you're late.

How much does daycare cost in Sussex, NB?

What should I look for when choosing a daycare in Sussex?
Check for an active provincial licence, staff-to-child ratios, program approach (play-based, Montessori, francophone), age-group coverage, Parent Fee Grid / Parent Subsidy participation, and parent reviews. MapleCub lets you filter Sussex daycares by all of these.
Ask about spots near you
We email the centre and ask whether they have room for your child's age group. If they answer, we send you what they said. We don't hold live vacancy data, and centres aren't obliged to reply.
